The Legend of the Seven Pillars
Rising from the banks of the Mississinewa River near Peru, Indiana, the Seven Pillars are among the state's most beautiful natural landmarks. The towering limestone formations were carved over thousands of years as the river slowly eroded the surrounding rock, leaving behind a series of steep pillars that have become both a geological wonder and a place of legend.
According to Miami tribal tradition, the Seven Pillars served as a significant gathering place and are closely connected to the history of the Miami people. Oral traditions describe the area as a place where tribal leaders met, held councils, and made important decisions. Because of its cultural importance, the site remains meaningful to the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma today.
