The leutins d'écurie ("stable goblins") were a type of domestic spirit specifically associated with stables and livestock. Belief in them was widespread throughout the region, but they are particularly well documented around Blain, where several detailed accounts were collected.
Like other household spirits, they could be either helpful or troublesome depending on how they were treated. Farmers sought to earn their favor, since the leutins d'écurie were believed to watch over horses and other animals.
According to local tradition, these spirits visited stables at night, riding the horses until they were found covered in foam the next morning. They also braided horses' manes, milked cows, sheared sheep, slipped into houses through keyholes or chimneys, stopped clocks, and made furniture creak.
