According to local tradition, Misti Courtin was once a lord of La Bretesche, transformed into a monster along with his family. They are said to dwell in La Bretesche Forest, where they appear during thunderstorms.
They were described as having the hands and feet of beasts, and anyone who encountered them was expected to make the sign of the cross. According to an informant born in 1923, local forest rangers claimed to have seen them.
Misti Courtin and his family were also believed to be shapeshifters, capable of taking the form of a korrigan or a horse.
