Palmer Cemetery
Hidden along Palmer Road outside Mendon, Ohio, Palmer Cemetery is a small rural cemetery that has become one of Mercer County's most talked-about local legends. The cemetery itself is quiet and isolated, surrounded by farmland and known for its old headstones and large monuments. While there is little publicly available history about the families buried there, the location gained attention through a strange local story involving one of its monuments.
According to legend, one of the large monuments in Palmer Cemetery glows green at night. The story claims the glow can only be seen from a specific spot along the road, leaving visitors searching for the correct angle to witness the unusual sight. The cause of the reported glow has never been confirmed, but the story has been passed down as one of Mendon's more unusual pieces of folklore.
Unlike many haunted locations, Palmer Cemetery does not have a famous ghost story or documented tragedy attached to it. Instead, its mystery comes from the unexplained claim itself and the atmosphere of an old cemetery hidden away on a quiet country road.
Today, Palmer Cemetery remains a small but memorable piece of Ohio folklore, showing how even ordinary places can become legendary through stories shared between generations.
Discovering this place in the early 2010s is when I began to come up with the idea for the Loremaps website.
_Note: The cemetery is located on private property. Permission should be obtained before visiting._
