A story true to Arthurian tradition has grown up around the Golden Tree, created in the legendary Forest of Brocéliande. Legend has it that deep within the _Val sans Retour_ (Valley of No Return) stood a tree that sprouted golden leaves every night. Just before dawn, the sprites of Brocéliande would gather them to craft a magical ointment for healing damaged trees.
One day, a local girl named Henriette lost her way in the Forest of Paimpont. Spotting a tree glowing in the darkness, she approached and, driven by curiosity, touched it; yet a curse instantly transformed her into a black tree. When her friends, who had set out to find her, reached the base of the tree and embraced it, they too suffered the same fate.
At daybreak, the sprites arrived for their daily harvest. But on that day, they were suddenly turned to stone. Since then, the Golden Tree has appeared to be guarded by the five black trees and the standing stones surrounding it. While the tree with its radiant trunk continues to draw walkers, let those who venture too close beware!
