German immigrants brought to Wisconsin legends of tiny elves and gnomes which would help out craftsmen during the night. To this day, the legend is kept alive by the Usinger's sausage company, who insist that the elves run their factories by night, helping to make the sausage.
The Usinger's family goes so far as to claim they are only really a front for the sausagemaking operation, and that the elves do all the real work. The head elf, Fritzie, is in charge of the whole operation and is the mascot for the company.
