The lutins of Green Bay were tiny, gnomelike men, with feathered, red-pointed caps. They liked to sneak into horse stables by night to care for and ride the horses, and to tie fairy knots in the horses' manes. This sometimes resulted in the horse being exhausted in the morning.
The lutins came to Green Bay with French Canadian immigrants, who in turn got the legend from mainline France. Unlike the lutins of European lore, Green Bay's lutins were said to have only one eye, like a tiny, gnome-like cyclops.
